Kelseyville Unified School District in Lake County, California, Seeks New Board Members

The Kelseyville Unified School District is seeking new provisional board members following the resignation of two previous members. The vacancies were created by the resignation of Natalie Higley and Allison Panella. Higley resigned because she took a job within the district, making her ineligible to serve on the board, while Panella resigned for personal reasons.

Interested community members can download an application from the Kelseyville Unified website or pick one up at the district office. The deadline to submit applications is noon on Friday, Dec. 8. The district aims to have the vacancies filled by Dec. 19.

The current elected board members, including Board President Rick Winer, Clerk Gilbert Rangel, and Mary Beth Mosko, will appoint the new provisional members, who will serve from December 2023 through December 2024.

Applicants must reside within the district boundaries, be a registered voter, have no conflicts of interest that would invalidate service, and be at least 18 years of age. The district is looking for candidates who are familiar with Kelseyville Unified and have a genuine interest in public schools, the community, and every child.

The school board’s role is to ensure that school districts are responsive to the values, beliefs, and priorities of their communities. Board members are expected to attend approximately four hours of meetings per month, including one regular monthly meeting and occasional special meetings.

Once applications are reviewed, qualified applicants will be invited for interviews on Dec. 14, and the two chosen applicants will be sworn in on Dec. 19. These provisional board members will serve until newly elected board members are chosen during the November 2024 election.

In the November 2024 election, two positions will be listed on the ballot: one for a full four-year term and another for the remaining two years of an existing four-year term.
